Introduction
Hello everybody! Today, I am going to continue the series of posts I started a few days ago, about the favourite movies of the Strawhat Pirates. Remember, this is not an official statement by the author, but my personal opinion about what their favourite movies might be. With that into consideration, let’s start with the list of Franky’s top 5 favourite movies!
5. The Notebook
Franky is a sensitive person, a person driven by emotion. With that into consideration, Franky would fall for the cliché of destined love the Notebook movie promotes, as well as admire the protagonist’s determination to build a house by himself, reflecting his own passion for shipbuilding and craftsmanship.
The movie’s portrayal of enduring love would also match with Franky’s strong sense of loyalty and devotion to his crewmates, to his foster brother Iceberg and his paternal figure, Tom.
4. American Pie
Franky’s playful and carefree personality would make comedies like “American Pie” appealing to him, but there’s more.
The movie’s humorous situations would remind Franky of some of the hilarious adventures he’s had with the Straw Hat crew, such as the scene of him joining the Strawhat Pirates (a quite perverted scene).
Furthermore, it would fit with the American theme Franky’s whole character has.
Finally, watching this movie with Brook (as Brook likes it, as well according to myself) could create a fun and light-hearted atmosphere, strengthening the friendship between the two, based on their pervertness.
3. The Terminator
As a fan of strength and power, Franky could appreciate Schwarzenegger’s iconic role as the Terminator.
Moreover, Franky would love the movie simply because he also happens to be a cyborg. Any movie about cyborgs would be one he would enjoy, but this may be the most popular cyborg movie, so there is no way it would not be one of his favourite!
2. Fast and Furious (franchise)
Franky’s love for mechanical stuff and speed would make “Fast and Furious” a thrilling choice for him. Moreover, the movie’s emphasis on teamwork and forming a close-knit family fits perfectly with Franky’s deep bond with the Straw Hat crew. Franky would admire the impressive cars and vehicles in the movie, finding inspiration for his ship designs and their technology, while also bringing him to tears with a few scenes (especially the ones about Family).
Franky is a person who was abandoned by his family. So the trope of a family that is found on one’s way would definitely make this movie one of his favourite ones. Plus, he is the guy who would enjoy the explosions and all the manly figures of the movies, besides the family theme.
1. Polar Express
The number 1 of this list, Franky’s potential favourite movie is one that stems from his childhood memories. It is a movie about a train, the Pollar Express train. Upon watching it, Franky would instantly reminisce Tom and his life long dream.
The enchanting journey of “Polar Express” would bring to the surface of Franky’s mind and heart,the magical memories associated with the Sea Train his master, Tom, built.
The train’s engineering marvels could intrigue Franky as a fellow builder, sparking his imagination and inspiring him in his own crafts and designs.
Finally, the movie’s theme of belief and the power of dreams would connect with Franky’s unwavering belief in achieving his dreams and building a ship that can travel all over the world. For him, it would be something more than a movie. It would be the manifestation of his childhood and his dreams – a phantom thread that would associate his own experiences and desires with his long gone master’s, making the movie a masterpiece for Franky’s cinematic appetite.
